Hector graduated from the British School of Osteopathy, the same institution as Laura and Carol Maria. On graduating in 1991 Hector opened the Back Pain, Sports Injury and Headache Clinic in Banbury, also providing manual handling training to national and local companies for ten years. Hector worked for over fifteen years at Oxford Brookes University in the School of Health and Social Welfare, with Laura Humphreys. Hector’s clinical interests are focused in paediatric manual therapy, Low back pain and sciatica and Manual Therapy For Mental Well Being.
Hector’s understanding of the body did not begin in a treatment room — it began in the fields. He started life as a shepherd and relief herdsman, later working within the crofting communities of Shetland. Years of handling livestock taught him, long before any formal study, that animals communicate, soothe and settle one another through contact — not force. Herd animals synchronise through touch; flocks calm through closeness; a hand placed on a distressed animal often brings an immediate shift in its whole physiology. Only much later did Hector come to recognise this for what it truly is: water-to-water communication. Every act of body-to-body contact is, fundamentally, contact between two fields of bulk water. And the same principle applies between water-to-body, which is precisely the mechanism that evokes the mammalian Dive Reflex — the primitive, deeply conserved reflex that drops sympathetic tone and invites immediate calm. After studying Agriculture at Reading University, Hector worked in Kenya installing windmills, later becoming a crop-protection consultant specialising in grazing patterns and monoculture cropping for Shearing Agriculture. This period reinforced his fascination with biological systems that regulate, adapt and respond through subtle environmental cues. He went on to study Osteopathy at the British School of Osteopathy (BSO) in Trafalgar Square. It was there that he first encountered multi-hands techniques — and immediately noticed that treatments involving two practitioners consistently produced deeper relaxation than those performed by one. To Hector, this was not mystical. It was simple physics: two practitioners mean more bulk water, more diamagnetic field, more opportunity for autonomic settling. For the past twenty years he has explored the healing potential of diamagnetic water, and the diamagnetic properties of other materials, as a means of modulating sympathetic tone. This work has gradually illuminated what A.T. Still hinted at when he called himself a “magnetic healer”. Seen through modern biophysics, Still may well have been observing the same phenomenon: the body’s capacity to relax when brought into contact with a coherent diamagnetic field. Today, Hector continues to develop and teach these insights — grounded not only in osteopathy, but in the quiet wisdom absorbed from animals, land and water.
